Live Music To Get You Through Lockdown

Photograph by Darren Warner of Mikey Way, My Chemical Romance performing in Cardiff February 2011

Something I’ve missed the most in 2020 is live music. It’s one of the best things in the world to me, the feeling you get at a gig is like no other. This is probably the first year in a long time I haven’t been to a gig, at least since I was 12 years old. So, you could say the gap is noticed. To fill this void in 2020 I have been watching a LOT of concerts on the internet, especially during the lockdown periods. So today I thought I would share some of my favourite concert videos I have been watching during this time. Many of which I have made my family sit down and watch with me…Of course, there’s always so many amazing concerts I would love to add to this list but I didn’t want to make it too long for you.

There have been some bands that have been releasing some of their old concert sets in full on YouTube which is really cool to see, and the BBC had their Big Weekend, Glastonbury and Reading and Leeds online this year, where they put some amazing sets from the past up on the iPlayer for everyone to watch. For my family this meant creating the festival experience at home, complete with a set guide and festival food. Teenage Cancer Trust have also put up some sets on their YouTube page as well, it's worth having a look at.

For this list I have added one song from each concert, but you should be able to find the full concerts somewhere on the internet if you are interested in seeing the full thing (which I would really recommend). I hope that there’s something here that everyone will like, be sure to let me know what concert performances you have watched over lockdown too.

Muse - HAARP, Wembley Stadium 2007

The 1975 - O2 London 2016

Green Day - Bullet In A Bible, Milton Keynes 2005

Yungblud - Reading 2019

I would also really recommend watching the full set from Brixton that you can find on YouTube.

Coldplay - Paris 2012

Fall Out Boy - Boys Of Zummer, Chicago 2015

Lorde - Glastonbury 2017

Radiohead - Lollapalooza 2016

Recently Radiohead have put a lot of their full festival sets on YouTube so again I would really recommend going to watch one of those.

Frank Iero - Pittsburgh 2017

This is a fan video from a show in Pittsburgh, there aren't many videos online that aren't fan videos of Frank Iero performing, but this is my favourite one to watch, though the sound quality is not great, it really catches the atmosphere of the show.

There is a video by Kerrang of Frank Iero & The Patience performing in London on YouTube that is a full set and another one I'd recommend if you have the time.

Nothing But Thieves - Hamburg 2018

P!NK - American Music Awards 2012

Foo Fighters - Wembley Stadium 2008

twenty one pilots - Fox Theatre, Oakland 2015

CHVRCHES - Reading 2016

All Time Low - Straight To DVD II, Wembley Arena 2015

Paramore - Reading 2014

Re-watching Paramore's set from Reading 2014 is one of the reason I wanted to make this list for you, it's absolutely incredible and this is probably one of my favourite parts from it. The full set is on youTube and is something that I will be re-watching a lot over the next lockdown.

My Chemical Romance - Reading 2011

The Black Parade Is Dead, Mexico 2007

This performance is one of my favourites of this song, I had to include it in this list even with the other songs.

These are the performances that I keep going back to, and the ones that I watch to cheer myself up. I hope they help you fill the concert void of 2020 like they have for me. Please stay safe and follow government guidelines on covid-19, it’s a way to help make sure that concerts and festivals can come back in the future, so we can all be in those sweaty clubs, big arenas or festival fields together again soon.

Thanks for reading, until next time…
