Interview with Peach Martine

At just 19-years-old, Miami based artist Peach Martine has already captured the hearts of millions with her clever, vulnerable songwriting that tackles the highs and lows of being a young woman in today’s world. I caught up with Peach Martine to talk all about her new single 'Romeo & Juliet'.

Hi, how are you?

I'm doing so good, thanks for asking!

How would you describe your sound to the readers?

I'd call my genre alternative pop-rock. It's very theatrical and heavily influenced by classic rock.

Who would you say are your biggest musical influences?

I adore Queen, the Beatles, Lana Del Rey, and the Rolling Stones.

How did your music journey start?

I've always made music! I've been making up songs since I was a little kid and teaching myself to play instruments. Music has always been my passion.

Your new single ‘Romeo and Juliet’ is out on April 8th, congratulations! This song has been described as a “pop-punk fantasy” which I love, how was the process of creating this song for you?

Thank you! This song fell out of my brain after a crazy weekend when I fell hopelessly in love. I wrote it in like 10 minutes; it's super raw and honest and upbeat and fun.

Can you explain more about the inspiration behind the lyrics for this song? Why was this a song you wanted to write?

At its core, 'Romeo and Juliet' is about that on-top-of-the-world-feeling when you've just begun a relationship. It's so happy, exciting and you can't help but crave this feeling when you're single. I had not written a love song in a very long time, so I thought this would be a great single.

Do you have a favourite lyric or line from the song?

I really like "Baby, be my muse" because I don't think I've ever had the word 'baby' in one of my songs. I think it's a cute sentiment.

What’s something you want listeners to take away from listening to ‘Romeo and Juliet’?

I'd love for them to find it relatable, and for them to really have fun listening to it. It's a great song to sing along to with your friends.

What’s next for you? Do you have any more music on the way?

This is my second single off my first album! I'm so excited to release my album.

And lastly, what music have you been listening to recently? Anything you can recommend to us?

I've had 'The Who Sell Out' by The Who on repeat for the last few days. It's incredible.

Thank you so much for taking the time to answer these questions for us, it’s really appreciated!

Thank you very much for having me!
