Interview with Michy Tree

Michy Tree is an alternative musician from Berkshire who has recently released her third single 'The Wire'. I caught up with Michy Tree to talk about the new song, and her upcoming show at the O2 in Islington.

Hi, how are you?

I’m good.

How would you describe your sound to the readers?

Alternative punk indie rock.

Who would you say are your biggest musical influences?

Biggest musical influences are The 1975 as they’re so honest in their music and never scared to switch up genres. Paramore are just iconic and their music is so relatable.

Your new single ‘The Wire’ has just been released, congratulations! How was the process of making the song for you?

The process was really fun, I started with the riff and the song just formed. Think it’s the fastest I’ve ever finished a song!

What was your main inspiration for the lyrics in ‘The Wire’?

The media. We absorb it all day everyday but most of it is lies, which is crazy! I thought It’s a subject that needs to be spoken about more.

Do you have a favourite lyric or line?

Definitely “one day you’ll be buried with me” because we’re all the same and at the end of the day, who ever you are, we will all be dead in the ground together.

What do you want listeners to take away from ‘The Wire’?

I want people to stop giving themselves all these expectations and just try to enjoy life and love ourselves.

Can you tell us more about the show you are playing at the O2 Academy in Islington on the 28th of August? I’m sure it will be great to play ‘The Wire’ live.

Yes! I’m very excited there’s a great line up for the night! The wire is my favourite to play live for sure! I can’t wait!

What can we expect next from you? Is there any more music on the way?

Just making music constantly! You have to keep your eyes peeled!

And lastly, what music have you been listening to recently? Anything you can recommend to us?

I’ve been listening to Nothing But Thieves new E.P it’s honestly full of insane songs! I really recommend.
