Interview with ADMISSIONS About Their Explosive New Song 'Cloned'

ADMISSIONS are back with explosive new song 'Cloned' and it's well worth listening to. I first heard the song back in February when ADMISSIONS had sent me their Hot Box sessions performance to use as part of our After Midnight festival and it was one of the songs that really stood out to me, so I am glad that the song has finally had its studio release. I caught up with the band to talk about writing this song, recording during the pandemic, and their future plans.

Your new song Cloned is this next Friday, and it’s a song I’ve been waiting for you guys to release for a while now. I love the energy this song brings with the driving rhythm and guitars. How did this song come together?

We’ve actually been sat on this song for well over a year. Since January 2020! So to be able to finally get it out and share it is great. The energy the sound how still impresses is every time we play it! We can’t wait to be able to play this one live!

When recording this song did you face any challenges due to the pandemic?

We were really lucky when recording ‘Cloned’ to have the session booked in right at the start of October in between the first two lockdowns. So we was able to head down to armistice records in Portsmouth. We’ve had lots of studio time canceled due to Covid, so you be able to record this was a huge relief.

Can you talk more about the inspiration for the lyrics on this song? Do you have any favourite lines?

We all kind of interpret the track differently with the meaning or inspiration... we kinda see it how people portray themselves differently online and to how they are addicted to social media! Our favourite line from the track “you’ve got me hooked on a spell, you’ve been cloned” it really hits home with how people can’t stay off their phones and are constantly checking their phones.

How does the writing process work in ADMISSIONS? Does one person bring a riff or a chord progression to the group and you work from there or are the lyrics written first and then music worked around that?

We are super lucky that everyone has ideas and everyone is happy to share the ideas, we usually start with someone sharing recording on the band what’s app group and then it naturally unfolds from there. Sometimes it can take a few attempts at the idea and a few variations of the probably recording, but we get there and 9 times out of 10 we are always really pleased with the result.

We saw your explosive Hot Box sessions set as part of our After Midnight music festival back in February, what’s something you miss most about playing live?

Crowd reaction! We draw huge motivation for each song depending oh how the audience reacts to them! We don’t treat playing live as just as gig, we see it as a social occasion, a good night out where we get to see all our friends. That’s what’s we are desperate to get back to!

Are there any plans for more music at the moment?

We have two more singles recorded that could see the light of day in the summertime. But our main focus now is turning our heads to our first EP for the end of the year/start of next. We’ve got some REALLY good songs for it. But we are bias! Aha.

And lastly, what have you been listening to recently? Anything you can recommend to us?

We’ve really been getting to Essex bands ‘Palps’ and ‘Ocean Flaws’ recently. Strongly recommend you check them out!

Thank you so much to ADMISSIONS for taking the time to answer those questions for us, it's really appreciated. I'm really looking forward to seeing what comes next from them as well. Make sure you go and give 'Cloned' a listen and add it to your Spotify playlists as well as that can really help a band grow.

Thanks for reading, until next time...
