New Music in 2020

Here we are at the start of another new year, and a new decade. The last decade brought us some incredible releases and I am excited to see what comes in the future. I have made a list of new music either definitely being released or rumored to be released in 2020. Either way, I am definitely excited for all of these releases and think that you should keep an eye out for them too. Let me know what albums you are most excited for, or who you’d like to release something new in 2020.

I am going to start with the releases that have been confirmed and have official release dates before talking more about the rumored releases.

Green Day – Father Of All…

Release Date: February 7

Green Day are back! It has been 4 years since the bands last album Revolution Radio, and though the band haven’t really gone anywhere, releasing a greatest hits and forming other bands (The Longshot), the anticipation for new Green Day music is high. We have heard three songs from the album so far, and it sounds as if the band are keeping it simpler on this next album with straight feel good rock songs. This album of course comes before the huge Hellamega tour which will see the band joined by Fall Out Boy and Weezer for what promises to be an unforgettable show.

Listen to Oh Yeah! here:

Oh Wonder – No One Else Can Wear Your Crown

Release Date: February 7

The third album from London based duo Oh Wonder is almost upon us. The new album No One Else Can Wear Your Crown is one that I am looking forward to the release of next month as I have enjoyed all the singles so far.

Listen to Happy here:

Tame Impala – The Slow Rush

Release Date: February 14

Australian artist Tame Impala is back after 5 years with new album The Slow Rush. Again, Tame Impala didn’t disappear in those 5 years, touring and working on other projects instead, but many are pleased that Tame Impala are back with new music, especially after previous album Currents which saw a lot of success both with fans and within the industry.

Listen to Lost In Yesterday here:

Soccer Mommy – Color Theory

Release Date: February 28

Soccer Mommy is releasing her sophomore album Color Theory this year, a release I wasn’t expecting yet, but one I am definitely looking forward too. After the release of Clean, Soccer Mommy has started to make a name for herself in the industry and I am not complaining.

If you want to listen to some good indie music then I suggest you give this a listen.

Listen to Circle The Drain here:

Brooke Bentham – Everyday Nothing

Release Date: February 28

The debut album from Brooke Bentham is out on February 28th. This is an album I have been waiting for, for a while. After seeing Brooke support Soccer Mommy on tour in 2018 I got hooked on her EP The Room Sways, which I highly recommend listening to, and have been waiting for more ever since. This album has been written and produced with Bill Ryder Jones too so I am very excited to see what it will sound like.

Listen to Control here:

Sea Girls – Under Exit Lights EP

Release Date: March 6

Sea Girls had a brilliant year last year with plenty of very good singles such as Damage Done, and some great live performances. The band are definitely one of the main up and coming bands at the moment and so the announcement of their debut EP was met with glee from a lot of people. Though the track-listing is yet to be confirmed this EP promises to be a good one, and definitely one worth listening to when it arrives.

Listen to Ready For More here:

Conan Gray – Kid Krow

Release Date: March 20

The debut EP from Conan Gray will be out on March 20. This is another album I have been anticipating for a while now, as I have been following Conan since his Youtube days. I am pleased that he has gotten to this place and received the success he has for his past music, including the Sunset Season EP which was incredibly good. We have heard a few songs from the album including Maniac and The Story, which are promising for what is to come.

Listen to Comfort Crowd here:

Mystery Jets – A Billion Heartbeats

Release Date: April 3

This album was delayed from last year after the announcement that frontman Blaine Harrison needed emergency surgery, and the band didn’t want to release the album and not be able to play any shows and decided to wait until after the recovery. The wait will definitely be worth it though as all the songs released so far are very good and have me very excited for the album, especially after Curve Of The Earth which is exceptional album. It will definitely be an album not to be missed in 2020.

Listen to Screwdriver here:

The 1975 – Notes On A Conditional Form

Release Date: April 24

The 1975’s 4th album Notes On A Conditional Form will be released in April, after being pushed back from February. The follow up to 2018’s A Brief Inquiry Into Online relationships will be the second instalment in the Music For Cars project. So far we have heard 3 very different songs from the album, which is said to have 22 tracks. All 3 of the songs are very good though and I have enjoyed each one so I am looking forward to this album very much especially after The 1975’s previous two albums which are exceptional. It will be another album not to miss this year.

Listen to Me & You Together Song here:

Creeper – Sex, Death & The Infinite Void

Release Date: May 22

The second full length album from Creeper is out in May and from the songs we’ve heard so far it sounds like it will be a triumphant return for the band. The band have created quite a big following with their previous album and many will be looking forward to this album. If you are a fan of rock music and haven’t heard of this band then please go and give them a listen, or revisit their previous work if you haven’t for a while. Creeper are definitely a band not to be missed.

Listen to Born Cold here:

The next few albums are ones that have been announced by the artists and bands themselves and have singles but have no release dates yet. I will be posting updates on these on my social media pages, so make sure to give them a follow if you don’t already, links will be at the end of the post.

The Killers – Imploding The Mirage

The Killers have announced a new album called Imploding The Mirage which is set to be released in the spring. This will be their 6th studio album and the follow up to comeback album Wonderful Wonderful. There have been no singles yet for the album, but tour dates have been announced.

Hayley Williams - Petals For Armor

Paramore front woman Hayley Williams has announced a solo project called Petals For Armor which will be released this year. We have the first single from it, called Simmer, which is a great song, different to Paramore but still definitely worth the listen. The album is something that came out of the band’s year off after touring After Laughter and Williams has said it felt very natural to make, without the pressure.

Listen to Simmer here:

Palaye Royale – The Bastards

Palaye Royale are back with their third album this year, though the release date has not been announced, we have heard many songs from the album and the band are touring all over Europe and the U.S.A this spring. I am very excited for this one as I have only started listening to this band within the last few months and am very excited for new material. This albums seems to be a concept album judging by the music videos and the social media posts by the band and their members. It sees drummer Emerson Barrett’s visual world come to life, on something that seems to have been in the works for a while. It promises to be a good album, and possibly one that will see Palaye Royale gaining a much bigger audience than they already have.

Listen to Hang On To Yourself here:

Fickle Friends

Fickle Friends have announced that their second album will be released this year, with one single already released and the second coming soon, the album announcement is only around the corner. The band spent last year in the studio writing and recording this album, taking a break from touring until December. It will be good to see them back, and I think this album will be just as catchy as the last. I am very excited to hear more.

Listen to Pretty Great here:

Declan McKenna

The much anticipated sophomore album from Declan McKenna will be released this year, we have yet to have a date for the release, but the album is said to be done and single British Bombs was released last year. After disappearing for over a year to write this album, I am very excited to hear it, especially after loving his debut album so much.

Listen to British Bombs here:

All Time Low

All Time Low have released a great new single Some Kind Of Disaster within the last few weeks and though there has been no official album announcement yet, this surely means we will be getting to hear more from them in 2020. This album will be the follow up to the 2017 album Last Young Renegade, and after the new song I am very much looking forward to it.

Listen to Some Kind Of Disaster here:

These next few are rumors and speculation and have not been confirmed. Some by the artist, some by the internet and some by myself. Hopefully we will see a few of these this year.

Yungblud

Although it has only been just over a year since Yungblud released his debut album and only a few months since the release of the exceptional EP The Underrated Youth, Yungblud has mentioned a new album coming together and possibly some new music coming soon. He is playing many headline shows in the UK and in Asia and Australia this year and will probably be playing a lot of festivals too. We have also seen a lot of photos from the studio since Christmas and fans believe it won’t be long until we hear more, Yungblud himself saying that new music is on the way.

Listen to Hope For The Underrated Youth here:

Foo Fighters

It has been almost three years since the release of new music by Foo Fighters and many believe we will be hearing new music soon. The band have created some speculation to by posting photos of them working in the studio. I will be very excited for this release if it is confirmed.

Listen to The Sky Is A Neighbourhood here:

Pale Waves

The band have apparently been working on a new EP since the release of their debut in 2018. This has been mentioned by the band themselves and close friend and label co-owner Matty Healy of The 1975. Though we have yet to have an announcement of this, recently the band have been working in a studio as shown on Instagram.

Listen to Noises here:

London Grammar

It has been 3 years since new music from London Grammar, though nothing has been confirmed, and it has been quiet from the band. Despite this the band have been confirmed to be playing at Mad Cool Festival in July. This is the only date I have seen, but it could mean that the band have been working on new music and are possibly gearing up for the release of that playing at summer festivals.

Listen to Non Believer here:

Wolf Alice

2017 saw the phenomenal sophomore album by Wolf Alice, Visions Of A Life, which went on to win the 2018 Mercury Music Prize. Since then the band have been pretty quiet and have said that they are working on new material. Will 2020 see the release of some of this? I am very intrigued to find out.

Listen to Don’t Delete The Kisses here:

My Chemical Romance

I wasn’t sure whether to include this one on the list or not.

My Chemical Romance have reunited and returned to the world, and as you can imagine many people are ecstatic about this, myself included. After playing a comeback show in LA in December, and announcing shows in Australia, Japan, UK, and Europe on what seems like it will be a huge return, many are asking whether we will hear new music from the band. I am not sure about this one. Of course it would be good, but I’m not sure if that is what the band are doing or whether they will start by playing shows and perhaps return to recording new music. Or not. But I couldn’t make a list of new music in 2020 without mentioning the return of My Chemical Romance. Especially not since I’ve been listening to a lot of their music recently.

Listen to Na Na Na (Na Na Na Na Na Na) here:

Well there you have it, my list of what music I will be looking forward to in 2020. Of course I couldn’t mention everything as otherwise we would have been here all day, but be sure to keep an eye out for these ones. I will be reviewing some of these albums when they come out so make sure you’re subscribed to the blog if you want to read them.
